Report Description

1,3-Butadiene, frequently referred to as butadiene, is a simple conjugated diene with the chemical formula C4H6. It is predominantly used as a monomer for producing synthetic rubber in industries. It is produced as a byproduct of the steam cracking used for producing ethylene and olefins; it is also produced from dehydrogenation of n-butane. The global demand of butadiene has been increasing as main application of butadiene is in the production of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and styrene butadiene rubber which is basically used for manufacturing automotive tires.

Global butadiene demand was estimated to be around 10.5 million tons in 2011. In terms of revenues, the market was estimated to be worth over USD 40 billion for the same year. Also the global automotive tires market is expected to reach at a historical mark of around USD180 billion by 2017, which makes butadiene market more attractive for the investors.

The major factors which are driving the butadiene market includes: growing global automotive market which in turn helps automotive tires market to grow and the factors which are hampering the butadiene market is the environmental hazards associated with it. In order to prevent environmental hazards caused by butadiene and at the same time catering to the increasing demand of the market industry is shifting towards the use bio-based butadiene, but it is still in its initial phase and will take some more years to completely evolve.

Asia Pacific is the biggest market for butadiene capturing around 45% of the global market share and it continues to be that way due to demands from emerging economies like China and India where the disposable income of people is increasing.

Recent fluctuations in crude oil prices, coupled with demand variations owing to regulatory scenario have pushed the chemical industry towards discovering bio-based routes for producing butadiene. In this space, there has been a slew of entrants most important of which include Novamont, Genomatia, Versalis and so on. The three companies mentioned have already entered into a partnership to develop a complete integrated process for manufacturing polymer-grade butadiene from biomass.

The major applications of butadiene include styrene butadiene rubber (SBR), styrene butadiene latex, paper coatings, gloves, wetsuits and foams, Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and so on.

The major players in the butadiene market include BASF, Dow Chemicals, Novamont Reliance Industries and many more.

Our research report analyzes the synthetic as well as bio-based butadiene market covering key industry drivers, restraints and opportunities. It provided historical and forecast data upto 2018 for all applications including SBR, SB Latex, Butadiene Rubber, NBR and so on for key geographies. Also, we have analyzed global capacity and utilization trends along with key developments in the bio-based butadiene space.
