In June 2021, GS Yuasa Corporation – a Kyoto-based Japanese company specializing in the development and production of lead acid and lithium-ion batteries – stated that it has set up a new subsidiary in Indonesia to boost its sales in the country. The company formed a joint venture with its subsidiary – GS Yuasa International Ltd. to form the new company named PT. Yuasa Industrial Battery.

In August 2020, Leoch International Technology Limited – a lead-acid battery manufacturer, developer, and exporter based in China – declared that it has launched a new product range of lithium iron phosphate batteries – Leoch Lithium, in the United Kingdom. In January 2022, Recyclus Group – a London-based provider of battery recycling solutions – announced that it has opened a new lead acid battery recycling factory in England. The new battery recycling production plant is in Tipton and its capacity is expected to process up to 12 metric tons of lead-acid batteries per hour.

The company also aims to establish a modular system that is completely automated to recycle all types of lead-acid batteries. By the end of 2027, the company aims to expand its lead-acid battery recycling production capabilities from 16,000 metric tons to around 80,000 metric tons per year. The process is also known to be environment friendly as it does not let any particle emissions enter the atmosphere.

With this step, the company is aiming to transform the lead-acid battery recycling industry from being a labour-intensive space to a mechanized industry.
