Report Description

Manometry is a diagnostic procedure performed to measure the impedance or pressure exerted by muscles inside body lumen such as esophagus, rectum, and nasal cavity. A probe or catheter containing solid phase or liquid phase pressure transducer is inserted inside the lumen. Pressure exerted by the muscles is then measured using a manometry unit and computer system. Manometry is performed to evaluate motility studies in various disorders such as achalasia, dysphagia, constipation, fecal incontinence, and abnormal sphincter contraction. Gastro-intestinal manometry lasts from 5 hours to 24 hours. Technological advances in manometry system are enabling other tests to be performed along with impedance mapping such as pH monitoring and temperature monitoring.
Changing dietary habits and rise in geriatric population is projected to increase the number of patients with gastrointestinal motility diseases such as constipation, achalasia, hiatal hernia, and dysphagia. According to a study conducted by the Royal Alexandra Hospital of Canada, achalasia has prevalence of 10 in 100,000 individuals in the country and is estimated to have incidence rate of 1.6 in 100,000. Increasing per capita health care expenditure and rise in investment in health care infrastructure development are likely to propel the manometry systems market in the near future. However, high cost and low awareness among physicians and patients in emerging and underdeveloped markets are anticipated to restrain the market.
The global manometry systems market can be segmented based on product type, application, end-user, and region. In terms of product type, the market can be segmented into devices and consumables. Consumables include catheters and probes, which are available as reusable and disposable. Dimensions and specifications of these catheters and probes differ based on the application area. Increasing number of manometry procedures being performed and demand for safe and non-infective procedures are projected to augment the market. Based on application, the market can be segmented into esophageal, anorectal, and others. The esophageal segment dominates the market owing to large number of indications and higher adoption. Increasing prevalence of diseases and disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, and colitis are expected to drive the anorectal segment in the near future.
Based on end-user, the global manometry market can be segmented into hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, diagnostic laboratories, and others. High adoption of manometry for various diagnosis procedures for long-term monitoring is projected to contribute to high market share of the hospitals segment. However, increasing demand for short term hospital stay and rising number of gastrointestinal procedures such as endoscopy being performed at ambulatory surgical centers are likely to propel the segment.
In terms of region, the global manometry systems market can be segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. High adoption of technology and high health care expenditure from public as well private sector in North America are likely to contribute to the high market share of this region. Moreover, high prevalence of lifestyle induced gastrointestinal disorders is projected to drive the market in North America. Europe is anticipated to account for significant share of the global market during the forecast period, due to well-established health care infrastructure in the region. Increasing investment by governing bodies in health care infrastructure development in emerging markets such as China and India is likely to propel the market in Asia Pacific. South Asia and Latin America region is estimated to have highest prevalence of gastro-intestinal motility diseases in globe which is projected to increase base of manometry systems in these regions which is projected to propel market
Major players operating in the global manometry systems market include Medtronic, LABORIE, Diversatek, Inc., Medica S.p.A., MEDSPIRA, MARQUAT Génie Biomédical, RMS Medical Devices, Dentsleeve International Ltd, and EB Neuro S.p.A.
