About Wind Turbine Gearbox

In a wind turbine, a gearbox is used to increase the rotor speed to an extent that it matches the generator speed. The gearbox connects the low-speed shafts with the high-speed shafts. The rotational speed of the generator shaft is far higher than that of the turbine blades. The gearbox in a wind turbine does not change gears; instead it maintains a single-gear ratio between the rotation of the rotor and the generator. The gear converts low speed to high speed and high torque to low torque. The high-speed rotation of the shaft produces electricity inside the generator.
