Report Description

Fluorometer or fluorimeter is an instrument used for luminescence analysis. It measures the intensity of luminescence. A fluorometer contains a source for exciting the luminescence and a photometer. Fluorometer measures the fluorescent radiation emitted by a sample which is exposed to monochromatic radiation. The radiation source could be a mercury-arc lamp or a tungsten or molybdenum X-ray that has passed through a filter. Fluorescence is used in determining the presence of a biologic molecule and its quantity in a medium. Fluorometers have the capability of detecting the concentration of fluorescent molecules up to 1 part per trillion. Fluorometers quantify, detect, and monitor analytes and their reactions by measuring the fluorescent signal from dyes attached to biologic molecules as well as naturally fluorescent molecules, based on wavelengths of excitation and emission.

Fluorescence analysis is more sensitive and specific than other techniques. Also, it conserves the sample. Fluorometers detect low concentrations of biologically active compounds such as proteins, nucleic acids, hormones, drugs, and microorganisms. Fluorometers enable the testing sample to be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Fluorescent compounds form unique excitation and emission spectra by coupling with other molecules to form a fluorescent compound. On the other hand, certain molecules are inherently fluorescent. No two compounds have the same fluorescence and this makes fluorometry a highly specific analytical method. Sensitivity, specificity, and cost-effectiveness of fluorometers or fluorimeters are expected to drive the global fluorometers market during the forecast period. However, usage of more sensitive alternatives such as luminometers is projected to hamper the fluorometers market from 2017 to 2025.

The global fluorometers market has been segmented based on source type, sample type, product type, modality, and end-user. In terms of source type, the market has been segmented into filter fluorometers, spectrofluorometers, and integrated fluorometers. Based on product type, the global fluorometers market has been segmented into single-tube fluorometers and multimode or microplate fluorometers. Multimode or microplate fluorometers are becoming more common owing to its feature of integration. The segment is projected to witness significant growth throughout the forecast period, owing to rising adoption of multimode or microplate fluorometers. Based on sample type, the global fluorometers market has been classified into proteins, nucleic acids, hormones, drugs, and microorganisms. In terms of modality, the global fluorometers market has been divided into portable fluorometers and benchtop fluorometers. Based on end-user, the fluorometers market has been segregated into academic institutes, research institutes, diagnostic centers, and others.

Geographically, the global fluorometers market has been divided into five major regions: North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Middle East & Africa. North America accounted for the maximum market share, in terms of revenue, in 2016. The region is expected to account for a leading share during the forecast period. The dominance of North America is attributable to strategic presence and distribution of new products of key players in the U.S. On the other hand, growing number of academic and research institutes funding for scientific research is thereby propelling usage of laboratory equipment such as the fluorometers in the Asia Pacific region which is projected to register maximum CAGR during 2017-2025.

Prominent players operating in the global fluorometers market are Promega Corporation, Merck KGaA, MRC, JASCO, Thermo Fisher Scientific, DeNovix Inc., Agilent Technologies, BERTHOLD TECHNOLOGIES, Biotium, Inc., BioTek Instruments, Inc., and PerkinElmer Inc.
