News of WhatsApp introducing a new feature enabling users to send money has cropped up. This Facebook-owned company is anticipated to try out digital payments by a system called WhatsApp Payments, which is all set to be launched in the U.K. soon. The beta version of the latest update of WhatsApp has over a billion active users. Sending instant payments is a feature that is already available in Facebook, and thus, the company wants to add it in WhatsApp also, making this messaging app even more popular.

This will help users pay for their coffee, their drinks or their taxi fares through WhatsApp conveniently between each other. This would be ideal for techy users who are already using digital wallets. Rumors suggest that it will be rolled out for users in India. But, it is uncertain when this update will be rolled out for the users in the rest of the world. The WhatsApp payments service will make use of Unified Payments Interface or UPI for transferring money from one bank to another. This UPI payment system is run by the Reserve Bank of India. This is an assurance that India will be the first one to receive this service on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp also added a screenshot of what this payment system would look like. In order to use this feature, users have to accept the WhatsApp Payments and Bank Terms and Privacy Policy.
