The launch of PlayStation 4 has contributed to higher sale of consoles for Sony, which has overtaken the sales of Wii U. This has helped Sony overcome in console sale for the first time in eight years against its rival Nintendo.
PlayStation 4 has also won against Microsoft’s Xbox One as Sony sold more than two million consoles compared to Microsoft.
Nintendo and Sony are old rivals that have had always competed in the gaming console market. Recently, the demand for Wii U which is Nintendo’s latest console has been declining compared to its most popular console from the last generation.
Nintendo’s sales declined by 31%, thus shifting to 16.3 million units. In May Nintendo confirmed an annual loss of USD 229 million. The supposed reason for this is the weak sale of the console Wii U and its handheld 3DS device.
With the launch of Sony’s PS4, Sony has sold around 18.7 million consoles towards the end of the financial year. This has helped Sony overtake in the console sale for the first time in eight years against Nintendo.
Even though, PlayStation 4 has won in terms of global sales, it is not leading the sales in the home market.
Nintendo famous for Pokemon and Super Mario games promised to return on the market with profit in its current year as they release new games such as Super Smash Bros 4 and others. Their sales will also increase as they will introduce Wii U consoles in the market at a much affordable cost.
