Executive director of the Merit Contractors Association of Saskatchewan, Karen Low is the guest speaker at Battlefords Chamber of Commerce. His talk will be focused around the conditions of the construction industry in the region. The talk is titled “Construction Means Business”, and it aims at giving an overview of the present and the upcoming issues in the expanding open-shop construction sector. This sector will spread across Battlefords and the province.
The talk seems to be perfectly timed and synced with the current boom in building permits in both North Battleford and Battleford. The total permit values were more than US$81 million in 2014. While speaking to the Regional Optimist, she pointed out the need and the impact of the growing construction sector on the economy.
She further added that growing construction activity in both public and private sector are indicators of healthy economy. She will also focus on the role of open-shop contractors in a given construction industry.
In addition the talk, Merit Contractors Association will also have a “Smart Start” seminar that is designed to assist employers to cut down on their time spent inWorkers’ Compensation Board claims. This way the seminar will also help in reducing the WCB premiums. The workshop is does not have an entry.
Both the presentations have come at an opportune moment when there is tremendous amount of economic uncertainty in the region as oil prices slump and the worry about layoffs continues to rise. Regardless of tough conditions released a statement saying that they are looking for skilled labor.
