As per recent studies, India has emerged as the largest supplier of online labor. The report suggesting the same has analyzed data from various e-platforms, which connect employers and freelancers. The US, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, and the UK, are among other countries showing considerable rise in the number of online laborers. It is important to note in this regard that more than half of the online work provided by India is led by the technology and software development sector.
India Emerges Dominant in the Online Labor Sector
In a report published by the Oxford Internet Institute last week most recent data regarding online labor in India was analyzed in detail. Among various other aspects, the report has also taken into consideration data obtained for the first week of July. According to the data, the largest supplier of online data is India’s traditional outsourcing destination, which according to findings is home to nearly 24 of online workers. Bangladesh and the US trails India, holding a share of 16% and 12%, respectively.
While workers across different countries focus on different occupations, a majority of workers in the Indian subcontinent primarily focus on technology and software development categories. This section of people commands nearly 55% share in the overall market. The UK however holds dominance in the professional services sector, which constitute services such as business consulting, accounting, and legal services.
In India, software and technology services enjoys lead, followed by multimedia and creative services, and sales and marketing support in the online labor sector. The information is however as per the recent reports.
