India has expressed its desire to use United States’ state of the art technology in order to propel the potency as well as the range of planned aircraft carriers, said sources in the defense industry. This move will only help tighten the arms programs between the two countries and help in countering the military influence of China in the region.
The proposal was only obliquely referred to in a joint statement after United States President Barrack Obama’s visit to New Delhi. This is so far the clearest signal that Washington is finally willing and ready to help strengthen the Navy Force in India.
This joint cooperation could possibly balance out the ever expanding presence of China in the Indian Ocean. However, this aircraft carrier in question will not be ready for at least 10 years or so.
The effort could be seen as a shift from India’s conventional and usual reliance of Russia for its military hardware. Experts believe that this would hold true especially if India ends up giving knock-on orders for aircraft by the United States in the long run.
It has been stated that the naval force in India is finally getting some attention after years of being neglected. The Indian Navy is now in the midst of rapid modernization under the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
India in 2014 inducted an old aircraft carrier from Russia which adds to another aging vessel from Britain which is most likely to be decommissioned in the year 2018.
