The treatment, symptoms, and study of Parkinson’s disease have been extremely vital areas within the field of healthcare and medicine. A number of previous researches have been conducted to study the signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, and a lot of them have been focused on getting to monitor the effect of treatment drugs. Along similar lines, IBM has come up with a micro sensor that has the ability to gauge the effectiveness of drugs used for combating Parkinson’s and other related diseases. The sensor can be placed on the fingernail of a person, and a customised software helps in observing the warping of the nails when the user grips an object. Since all activities involve holding or gripping of some or the other object, the sensor can help in fetching a good amount of data for analysis.
Mechanism of the Sensor
Although data with regards to the symptoms and signs of diseases can also be obtained by placing the sensors on the skin, the use of fingernails sounds more effective and reasonable. This is because attaching a sensor to the surface of the skin can create problems in the form of unruly infections and diseases. The sensor developed by IBM is extremely sensitive because the fingernails cannot be bent as much.
The sensors developed by IBM are yet to be tested across several centers across the world, and hence, it is difficult to give a verdict on their effectiveness of these sensors. However, the research is projected to open avenues for more deeper studied in the field of disease analysis and treatment.
