In Singapore, 23 construction projects, which is a record number, have been shortlisted to be awarded the Construction Excellence Award (CEA), as announced by Building and Construction Authority in the country.
Of all the 23 construction projects, The Glyndebourne – which is a private residential project by BCA Green Mark Platinum at Trevose Crescent, received a score of 97 for one of the highest quality construction as per the assessment system.
The builder for the development, Tiong Seng Contractors embraced Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the entire design, construction, and stages such as as-built. Additionally, elements such as precast panels and prefabricated bathroom units (PBU) were also brought in use for the development.
Other projects that are in the winning list are The Metropolis, NUH Medical Centre, Spectra Secondary School, and the submarine pipeline for gas transmission which runs across West Jurong channel.
The CEA, which is in the 29th year of its existence takes into consideration factors such as management of the project in totality, technical competency, and innovations that includes design complexity and quality of the project. The categories for the awards include industrial, institutional, commercial, residential, and mixed buildings.
The high number of CEAs in the country showcases consistent progress which is a mark of workmanship and quality in the last many years. The CEAs also incorporates significant percentage of productivity elements.
Further the authorities added, the high number of awards this year is also attributed to introducing norms such as ‘pre-qualifying criteria’ that includes work-site safety and innovatiove production technologies.
Other than the 23 that have been selected for CEA, seven other projects have been selected for Certificate of Merit. The winners announced will receive awards at the BCA Awards Ceremony to be held at Resorts World Sentosa on May 14.
