Chipotle Mexican Grill which is a first of a major restaurant chain recently announced that it will start serving food which is free from genetically engineered stuff
The founder Steve Ells who is the co chief executive of Chipotle, said this is another step towards their vision wherein they are changing the way people conceive and east fast food. Steve Ells further stated that just cause food is served fast, it does not mean that it should be made with cheap raw materials which are highly processed with fillers and preservatives and other harmful stuff such as stabilizers and artificial flavors and colors.
In the year 2013, Chipotle was the first chain restaurant which indicated that items that contained genetically modified organism, however, a small but growing number of restaurants that were largely in fine dining are also now labeling their menus.
Furthermore, grocers are also moving to offer consumers products which are free from any genetically altered ingredients. The stores called Whole Food are to be free from products that include such ingredients by the year 2018, and the chain stores Wal Mart is also expanding its selection of organic produce that are free from genetic alternation according to the law.
Other major chain restaurants which are following the footsteps of Chipotle are however uncertain. Since, the increased demand for such products has made them even more costly and difficult to obtain in large amounts which the big corporation requires.
According to Nicole Dawes, who is the chief executive and founder of Late July Snacks, say that the companies are able to live to their promise of being a non GMO, then you need a non GMO ingredients which is actually just 1 percent of your formula. Nicole further said that if you do have short supply of such an ingredient, then it is not possible to produce this product.
