A continuously variable transmission, or CVT, is a type of automatic transmission that provides more useable power, better fuel economy and a smoother driving experience than a traditional automatic transmission.

Global Automotive Continuously Variable Transmissions (CVT) market is experiencing a huge change. Regional development of automotive CVT in global market is not consistent.

Japan is the most important market as the Japanese like the low speed, smooth driving and without downshift feelings. Origin in Germany, automotive CVT was promoted by Japanese auto part manufacturers.

In 2012, Jatco, the leader of CVT market built an automotive CVT plant in Mexico to meet the needs of North America market. Besides, auto manufacturers like GM and Ford are introducing the automotive CVT to USA again.

But it's a pity that automotive CVT doesnt attract enough attention in Europe, as European more like sports feelings. DCT technology, introduced by VW is an important competitor of CVT technology. A case in point is that VW and Audi gave up the CVT in full-line car in 2016. CVT will occupied less market share in the future.

In Asia area, China is an emerging market of automotive CVT. China market is an epitome of global market. Both CVT and DCT market are developing fast in China. In 2016, Wanliyang acquired the Chery CVT business, and it will still supply CVT to Chery in the future. It goes without saying that automotive CVT market in China will enjoy a fast development speed due to the rapid growth of automotive production.
