Undermined by recession the rising prices and the reduced purchasing power of consumer led to the downfall of Russian beer market. Leading breweries were negatively affected whereas medium and small scale breweries outperformed their large scale counterparts. Many brewers used downsizing trend to attract consumers to discounted beer. The import was contracted by 44% whereas exports were increased by 9%. Ban on imports from Ukraine is one of the main reasons behind the contraction.

Lager beer influenced the market while wheat beer sustained any decline. Dark beer and flavored beer faced declines.
