Xiaomi Corp. has added yet another interesting product-line to its flagship of technologically advanced electronics equipment. The product-line that is making news this time is the company’s newly launched Smart Home Suite. The product is a group of four components for offering security features for the user’s home through controls on user’s mobile phone.
The suite has a pair of door and window sensors and a human motion sensor that can be used for enhancing the security of homes, Xiaomi’s President Bin Lin spoke at the product-line’s launch in Beijing. He added that a consumer test of the product will start on January 26.
Lin, while speaking at the GeekPark Innovation Festival conference, stated that motion sensors were very large in sizes and highly complicated in the past. To install one, the user had to have a professional installation. For this suite, however, the installations are extremely easy as there is not a single nail or wire in it and all the components are very simple.
Xiaomi’s progress in the digital world has been stunning. In only three years from the time of its inception, the company ranks as the world’s third largest smartphone vendor. At a value nearing US$45 billion, it also counts as the world’s most-valuable technology company.
Now, company’s CEO Lei Jun is pushing the company into the field of web-enabled devices for homes even when it rivals against smartphone giants Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics in the smartphone market.
About the Smart Home Suite, Xiaomi’s President Bin Lin added that it offers a multifunctional gateway which links various home components with others through Wi-Fi and a wireless switching device to control appliances. Together, the system can be controlled by a mobile phone.
Xiaomi was found in 2010 with a primary focus on making software for Android-based mobile devices. The company subsequently entered the field of manufacturing mobile devices such as television set-top box, TVs capable of connecting to the web and tablet computers.
