A recently document has revealed some interesting insights. According to this document, the company Shell was able to successfully undermine the Europe’s renewable energy targets some time ahead of an important agreement on carbon emissions cuts.

According to the European commission president, the package was very good news in their battle for fight against climate change. He further added that there was no player in the entire world that had as ambitious goals as the European Union. However, now it appears that an important part of this agreement was topped by the United Kingdom government which was proposed by a lobbyist from Shell which was presented as early as 2011.

During the meeting of governments in 2014, there was an agreement on a 40 per cent overall target for the emission cuts. However, in the long run the deal has gone through some disagreements between the states on how best to achieve these ambitious targets.

At present, the United Kingdom and other states are resisting these binding targets which were not able to make into final agreement. The proponents of the renewable energy field say that this was a critical missed opportunity which has delivered a strong signal to the investors that the European Union was quite serious about green energy.

However, the new documents released und the act of freedom of information show that the firm Shell has started lobbying the Barroso that was succeed by Uncker in the last November to scrap about the existing formula which linked carbon cutting emission goals via binding renewable energy laws.
