Virgin Galactic has always been proactive in taking every decision required to foster uninhibited development and innovation propaganda. In yet another step taken to empower its operations, Virgin Galactic announced on Thursday that it chartered a new manufacturing unit in Long Beach at California. Here they would design and construct LauncherOne, the very ambitious small satellite launcher.

George Whitesides, CEO, Virgin Galactic, said in a recently released statement that, the 150,000 facility is slated to be the factory for the manufacture of LauncherOne rockets “at quantity”. He also mentioned in the statement that in recent past Virgin Galactic has leased many facilities to enhance their building capability that will help them to serve the expanding customer community better. Recently Virgin Galactic has acquired Spaceport America in New Mexico for operations on commercial spaceflight, Mojave facilities was leased for the production of SpaceshipTwo and WhiteKnightTwo and the new facility at Long Beach is acquired for the manufacture of LauncherOne.

LauncherOne is essentially a double stage rocket. It is designed to deliver satellites with payloads of not more than 500 pounds. For instance, WhiteKnightTwo, which is a carrier aircraft designed by the company will launch passenger aircraft by Virgin Galatic. The company at present is aiming at delivering satellites into orbit for less than $10 million.

Virgin Galactic’s new manufacturing facility will be located at close proximity to Long Beach Airport. It will be located just across the airport, where the WhiteKnightTwo is scheduled to fly from in order to deliver the payloads of customers. Moreover, the company is also looking forward to host a job fair in March this year, in order to acquire talent to work in their new manufacturing facility.
