The new Ultramid polymerization plant by BASF was inaugurated at Shanghai. The new unit that has a capacity of 100,000 metric tonnes every year will further add to BASF’s production capacity and supply network which will help serve the Asia Pacific market in a better way.
As per BASF sources, this is the first time the company has ventured into polyamide polymerization in Asia Pacific and throws light on its commitment to the market. The innovation setup for production that the company has created will help responds to customers’ requirements faster and more efficiently, as commented by chairperson of executive board directors.
As per President Functions Asia Pacific and President and Chairman Greater China at BASF, in the fiber, film, and engineering plastics sector the demand for polyamide polymerization products will witness upward trend particularly in China. On having a local production unit, the company has a strong position to support customers’ growth and aid them in developing innovative goods to tap market opportunities.
The BASF fully owned unit was constructed at Shanghai Chemical Industry Park that also houses a world-scale plant for integrated isocyanate co-operated by BASF and its partners. At the same location, BASF also has production units for polyisocyanate (Basonat) and polytetrahydrofuran (PolyTHF). Such materials are used as coatings and in the furniture polishing industry, used as precious metal gels for automotive catalysts. At the same location BASF also owns a production unit for automotive coatings which is run by BASF Shanghai Coatings Co. Ltd, which is a BASF joint venture.
