ResMed, the sleep disorder device supplier announced its plans to acquire Curative Medical. This move is expected to put ResMed in a leading position in the China market. Curative Medical manufacturers ventilation and breathing devices for remedying sleep disorders. Their plant is based in Suzhou, with a distributor network that spans across China and other regions. The price of the acquisition is not yet disclosed.
According to ResMed the acquisition happens to be a far smaller one as compared to its global operations. However, it will be a lucrative acquisition as Curative Medical is growing fastest. Mick Farrell, chief executive at ResMed stated, the opportunity is an exciting one as it is going to help the company reach a leadership position in the country. ResMed also reported that Curative’s range of products will complement their product range as well. Both the firms will maintain their operational independence.
According to ResMed the China sleep disorder devices market has been segmented into products products that are supplied by Curative or by ResMed. Thus, it makes perfect sense that Curative retains its brand name and the products that are designed for China market and other regions.
In the last quarter ResMed registered a 2% rise year-on-year after the strong US dollar rates negatively affected the Asia Pacific and European operations. The net profit for ResMed was USD 353 million as on June 30.
