The growing awareness about fitness and overall physical wellbeing has led to an increase in participation of consumers across various sports activities. This has boosted the demand for sports apparel and fitness wears. Growing interest in indigenous sports as well as new sports activities, inclination towards healthy lifestyle, and the rise in geriatric population have augmented the growth of the global sports and fitness clothing market. The rise in popularity of adventure travelling, increased participation of women in sports activities, and the rise in disposable income have further propelled the growth of the market.
Demand for Modest Active Sportswear is Increasing
Some of the key players in the global sports and fitness clothing market include Reebok, Adidas AG, ASICS America Corporation, Amer Sports Corporation, Ashworth Inc, Benetton Group S.p.A, Blacks Leisure Group Plc, Billabong International Limited, Descente Ltd., Columbia Sportswear Company, Eddie Bauer Inc, Everlast Worldwide Inc., Escada AG, Foot Locker Inc., Banana Republic, Gap Inc., Old Navy, Hugo Boss AG, and Hanesbrands Inc. However, there is a dearth of market players offering modest active sportswear for female athletes. With Olympics 2016 to be held in Rio de Janeiro in September, companies such as Kosher Casual are offering modest active sportswear for women and girls participating in sports while adhering to hijab.
According to Gary Swickley, the founder and chief executive of Kosher Casual, the demand for modest active sportswear for women and girls have hiked in the last two years. Other companies such as Splashgear, Capsters, Aqua Modesta, and Nashata have entered into this niche market. A few years back, the number of visibly religious women and girls participating in sports activities was considerably less. But with an increasing number of such women and girls who are participating in various sports activities including swimming, fencing, and running without compromising their faith, the demand for modest sportswear is surging.
