Mercedes-Benz which was announced as the leading luxury carmaker in the country in the first quarter, is all set to retain its top slot all through the year as the sales are expected to be continue for 40% growth.
The luxury brand is hopeful that the space for luxury car will outgrow the total industry growth by a very large margin, which will be over 20% in this financial year. The 33,000 units of luxury car space in 2014 is dominated by three companies from Germany – Merc. BMW, and Audi. The brand that has the three pointed star hopes to reach 40,000 units by the year 2015, which will be 21% growth over the last year.
SIAM, the industry body, however, still feels a moderate growth in the financial year. The numbers in March exhibited 40% sales growth. The first two months in the June quarter have exhibited better results than the previous three months. The hope is that the momentum will continue, as said by managing director at CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
While speaking to a select group of media reporters after the launch of its sixth model, thru SUVs in the entry level in the GLA class, from the Pune plant of the company over the weekend.
He further said, to anticipate the sales of luxury car to touch 40,000 units by the end of 2015. Merc has also officially commissioned a third assembly line at Chakan, which takes the installed capacity of the car from 10,000 units to 20,000 units.
After a period of five years, Mercedes-Benz is back on its top position, after beating Audi in the last quarter of March. The number of units sold were 3,566 units with a growth of 40% in one year.
