Nearly 400 children in the province of Henan in China suffered severe health problems in the last few months after they were given out-of-date vaccines. Two children have already lost their lives due to vaccination, as reported by a leading media house on Monday.

After being vaccinated last year, 360 children belonging from the Shenqiu county near Zhoukou city in Henan, started complaining of adverse reactions.

A local satellite station called Henan TV reported last week that a three month old infant was among the children who suffered persistent breathing difficulties and high fever after being vaccinated for preventing whooping cough last year. Also subsequent investigations revealed that the infant, who was critically ill for two weeks, and have not completely recovered from health problems was given a vaccine on June 2014 that should not have been used after December 2013.

Since, the local media covered the report of sick children, the Shenqiu county center for disease control has allegedly published results of a recently conducted report, according to which diseases were caused by reasons other than vaccinations.

Yu Tong'an, whose child is also suffering due to the outdated vaccine product, lives in the southern province of Guangdong. He said that the problem of administering substandard vaccines to children has taken the shape of an endemic in the healthcare system of China, which has almost negligible provisions for independent safety check.

Since a larger group of victims was affected in Zhoukou, the Chinese government responded saying that the persisting illness among children had nothing to do with vaccination, said Yu during a recent interview to a local media on Monday.

He also cited that the problem took such a shape because no third party is involved in the process and is not allowed to play a supervisory role when such problems occur.
