Wu Song, the General Manager of Guangzhou Automobile Group stated that his vehicles need to be priced around 30% cheaper than the existing competition across the globe to stay in that edge. A present, the company is looking for some U.S. importers, dealers, and distributors, who can help in making this dream to step into reality. The first vehicle which Guangzhou is hoping to bring to the U.S. is the GS4 crossover model, which was debuted at the Detroit auto show in 2015.
The GS4 model is now offered on sale in China, and when the price is converted into U.S. dollars, it falls between the range US$16,245 and US$24,088. Wu Song further adds that, this model will be competing with the Toyota model: RAV4. The Toyota model starts at a price of US$24,565 till US$30,000 when it is optioned out. He informs that the GS4 crossover will be provided with more power, extra interior space, and increased fuel economy if compared with the Toyota RAV4.
Direct comparison in the Chinese testing cycle is not possible; however in terms of EPA ratings, the GS4 crossover earns nearby around 37 mpg. Many other Chinese car manufacturing companies, such as BYD Auto and Great Wall, have given promises long time back about their future in the U.S. market; however, as yet no one has brought in a car in the U.S. market.
Geely, a Chinese auto maker, which has the power by owning Volvo, also hasn't introduced any of its vehicles for the U.S. market. Taking this into consideration, Wu stated that they are not holding their breath for the Guangzhou; however, if it happens, they want to start with the sales before the start of 2017.
