NV Energy has recently entered into a partnership with Las Vegas to embrace solar power. Upon the final nod from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada and approval from the Las Vegas City Council, the enterprise will dedicate a share of energy harnessed at local solar facility to city operations. The energy contributed by local solar facilities, coupled with power that it receives from the NY Energy will enable the retail load in the city of Las Vegas to be 100 percent served by renewable energy.
Speaking about the latest development, the mayor of Las Vegas told that the partnership is likely to be a sustainability game changer for their city. He also said that people are very surprised knowing how environmentally conscious Las Vegas has become with regards to sustainability. He expressed that the city and its residents are proud to join the business leaders who significantly contributed to the ideals of conservation. Once the proposal is approved, Las Vegas will be the first city of its size to achieve a 100 per cent renewable energy usage for city operations. This is likely to give a major boost to the worldwide solar energy market.
The solar facility that will generate power to support the city’s 100 per cent renewable power goal, located at Eldorado Valley of Boulder City, is still under development. The plant is called 100-MW Boulder Solar Power Plant.
Such collaborations between government bodies and institutions are likely to propel the solar energy market globally. The endeavor undertaken by the city of Las Vegas, according to market experts, will prove to be a major step taken towards a future of green-energy. The success of project will lead to the advent of several other solar projects. This correspondingly to trigger healthy competition, giving a significant boost to the global solar energy market.
Switch, a leading developer of SUPERNAP data centers have also collaborated with NV energy and the city of Las Vegas in their endeavor. With Switch joining the collaboration of making the two entities to become 100 per cent renewably powered will also send a strong message to the rest of the world.
