The genetically modified apples are a new trend in the Australian apple industry. The two kinds of genetically modified apple varieties are specifically engendered for a reason. The development of these new varieties of apple has not been welcomed by the Australian as yet. However, they have been approved for sale in the United States. They help to avoid the disintegration or browning of their flesh.
The varieties are deregulated by the Department of Agriculture in the U.S but for further action the U.S. FDA will scrutinize a voluntary food safety assessment consultation.
Popularly developed by the OSF, the CEO of Apple and Pear Australia (APAL) warmly welcomes the development. He is happy to see GM apples been produced and also believes that this variety of apples and other GM apples in the development pipeline need not be grown or sold in Australia.
There is some kind of sensitivity to GM products he added. The policy also holds that the company does not go into the GM products as they are against it.
Different types of varieties of apples are produced by the company without GM. These varieties can cater every type of thing that consumers want.
The approved GM apples in the U.S. will not be available in Australia because there is a long-ban imported in Australia. This is due to the concerns over fire blight disease.
Fire blight is a crop affecting disease that could damage and kill the pear and apple trees. The U.S. is popular for this disease, whole Australia does not have any such impacts.
Meanwhile, there was another apple breeding program in the Europe that was working on GM apples. The program did not predict the GM apple being for sale in Australia though.
