Apple has aroused speculation about the completion of its ‘spaceship’ campus at Cupertino by 2016. This has happened on account of hiring a new general contractor for the construction of Apple Campus 2.
The new contractor in picture is Rudolph & Sletten Inc. which is a Silicon Valley company. The company will carry out the build out of the interior of Apple Campus 2 which was previously going to go to Skanska USA and DPR Construction Co. that were going to execute it jointly.
Apple and the other three companies that are involved in the constructing the main ring-shaped building commented about the involvement of a new general contractor for the interior structure. The construction industry local sources in Silicon Valley commented this could lead to possible delays.
The delay in the construction of Campus 2 could possibly escalate cost for the massive structure which is estimated at US$5 billion currently. Earlier, the budgeting problems at A[[le led the company for revising its Campus 2 plans.
Due to this construction was split in two parts in order to save money. The phase 1 plan includes construction of the main Apple campus and other buildings such as fitness center, auditorium, while the second phase of construction includes Tantau Development which is a massive 600,000 sq ft area dedicated for research facilities.
The plans for construction of second phase were proposed to the city in October 2014.At the construction site in Cupertino, work is completed for main ring-shaped building’s base, though walls are under work for the last several months.
Construction work is also going on in the garage parking at underground level and other several ancillary buildings.
